The Hideout

We offer a dog-friendly, rural retreat in the heart of Ashdown Forest

The Hideout is a rural retreat located in the heart of Ashdown Forest. It is just a five-minute walk from Gills Lap, one of the main walking hubs in the forest, making it the perfect location to explore all aspects of this iconic destination.

Our cosy studio is down a long, private drive and is very much off the beaten track. Although small, the studio contains everything that you need for a short or longer break. The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven and grill. There is an under-counter fridge with a small ice box. There is a washing machine for your use in the boot room opposite and there is a comfortable king size bed and spacious shower room. There is parking for up to two cars but I am afraid there is no facility to charge an electric car.

The property has a securely fenced courtyard garden with garden chairs and table. Once out of the garden gate you are straight onto forest land where you can walk for hours. The Pooh Sticks Bridge is a delightful 30-minute walk down the hill. We provide maps and walking suggestions to make it easy for you to get out there and explore.

The Hideout

‘…if a tired and smoke-dried citizen wishes for a few days’ ramble in a wild, hilly, and open country, accompanied by copious draughts of the freshest possible breezes, he cannot do better than pay a visit to Ashdown Forest’.

Happy Guests

  • We had a lovely stay at Jo's place, it's literally within the Ashdown forest so really easy to walk straight from the location for hours. We had 2 dogs and the location was superb. There is a small contained garden area on gravel, no grass (the larger grassed garden areas isn't contained, but this wasn't a problem for us as we took our dogs out for long walks both days we stayed). It's also really nice to have the doors open into the garden area to let the dogs come in and out without worrying about mud etc. Also lots of bird song There is a fridge with a little freezer which was handy and a nice sized kitchen for a studio.

  • A beautifully located studio in walking distance of the Forest. Property was very secluded and peaceful. All facilities you could expect to find and the kitchen and living areas were well equipped. I look forward to the outside space when the weather is a bit more accommodating.

  • I loved Jo's place. Small but perfectly formed, with everything that you might need to fix yourself a meal / rest / and enjoy. Location is great for walks in the forest, and a short drive to amenities. Will be back! :)

  • A fabulous gem of a place to stay in the heart of Ashdown Forest. Walks and runs from the doorstep, and a very peaceful place for a pre Christmas getaway. Wonderful food at the nearby pubs and tea rooms in the area. Thank you to Jo for her excellent hospitality.
